This is the main part of Dead Winter's Night, now. Originally, it was supposed to be a fan listing collective, with links to my fan fiction sites. I found that sort of boring and decided that it would serve its purpose better as a place where I could record and explore my thoughts and beliefs. My first thought was to use a live journal or some other type of blog, but I didn't want to take the chance of it turning into a flame fest with people who just don't understand the faith. This is a working archive, where I'll be adding pages as time goes on.
I worship the Norse Pantheon, and in particular, I follow Odin, Thor, and the Norns, Urd, Verdandi and Skuld. I also identify very much with the Green Man, as I am a zoologist and environmentalist. I believe in animal spirit guides, and I have a particular affinity with the wolf, fox and dog.
As for magick and divination, I don’t follow it that much as it conflicts with my sense of logic.I collect tarot/oracle cards, but they have to be of something that appeals to me (the tarot deck I have is related to Norse Mythology and the oracle cards I have relate to animal spirit guides.) I do have an interest in runes, and I posses more of an affinity with them than I do with astrology, or tarot. For instance, the runes which correspond to my initials also have aspects of my personality associated with them, or represent some obstacle which I’ve had to overcome in my life. Weird, eh? In spite of this, my interest in runes is more of an academic pursuit than it is divination.
I also collect crystals, but more for their ascetic appeal than for "healing magick". However, since doing my Open University course in Science, I have discovered that crystals may have had a role in the origin of life, so perhaps the concept of crystals have some kind of supernatural properties isn't as daft as it sounds...who knows?
If I had to sum up my beliefs, I would say that it is a mixture of Celtic, Nordic and Native American influences, which may seem bizarre at first glance, but when you consider the history of the three cultures, it makes sense. Having said that, I would only consider myself to be Celtic/Nordic.
Please bear in mind that my beliefs will not always mesh entirely with those of Pagan Organisations such as the Odinic Rite, and no offence or disrespect is intended if it does not. Paganism is pretty much an independant path, perhaps more so than it is as a group one, even if core beliefs are shared by many.
